An Overview of
Ruchira Shaktipat Yoga

by The Adidam Writer’s Guild

The Realization of God, or Truth, or Reality Itself, is entirely a matter of Divine Intoxication-this is the secret teaching of all the esoteric Spiritual traditions of humankind. And what is the Divine Intoxicant which Awakens the true practitioner to Real God? The traditions answer in a single voice: "It is the tangible Divine Spirit-Power, which pervades and transcends all the world."

The Divine Spirit-Power underlies a universal field of natural life-energy, which may be perceived in the feeling-dimension of ordinary human awareness. Indeed, the universalfield of natural life-energy is what people are experiencing when they feel the inherent "connectedness" of all things and all beings.

The Divine Spirit-Power, on the other hand, is not a matter of ordinary human awareness. When it is experienced, it is spoken of in Divine terms, as a Spiritual Awakening to the Presence of God, or as a Process of Spiritual Baptism. What the testimony of authentic God-Realizers throughout history makes clear is that not only is Spiritual Baptism a real Process, it is of an entirely different order of Force, Blessing, and Bliss than any ordinary human experience (or even any of the potentially "extraordinary" experiences that may be generated by "tapping into" the universal field of natural life-energy).

In this book, Avatar Adi Da Reveals that the various esoteric traditions of Spiritual Baptism can be divided into two basic camps.

The first camp is represented by the traditions which idealize the ascent of Spirit-Force up the spinal line as the effective means to the "higher" realizations of mystical reveries, heaven worlds, and, ultimately, to the formless realization of unutterable Bliss (which is referred to in the Spiritual traditions of India as "Nirvikalpa Samadhi"). These traditions often speak in terms of "raising" the "Kundalini Shakti" (or "Serpent Power")-which is visualized as lying coiled, asleep, at the base of the spine-so that it drives upwards, to and beyond the brain core. Because these traditions presume that the Kundalini Shakti is personal and internal, the techniques and practices they have developed are actually a matter of manipulating natural life-energies within the human body-mind (rather than a matter of directly magnifying the true Spirit-Force). Such practices (on their own) lead, at best, to only partially Awakened Kundalini Shakti.

The traditions representative of the second (and senior) camp speak of the full circle of conductivity in the human body-mind, descending down the frontal line and ascending up the spinal line, and they recognize the Divine origin of the Kundalini Shakti. Such traditions acknowledge the necessary preliminary descent of Spirit-Force, Divinely Given--usually via a Siddha, or an authentic living Master of Spiritual Transmission. As Avatar Adi Da points out, any form of Spiritual practice that is based on devotion to a true Siddha (or Spiritual Transmitter) is rightly described as a form of "Siddha Yoga". This is so in the case of all traditions based on the reception of Spirit-Baptism, whether those traditions originated in India or any other part of the world.

One of Avatar Adi Da's pivotal "Considerations" about the Process of Real-God-Realization, or Divine Enlightenment, revolves around the distinction between Spiritual Baptism as it has been traditionally understood and experienced (by those in either of the traditional camps) and Spiritual Baptism as it is Revealed and Given by Him. This "Source-Text", Ruchira Avatara Hridaya-Siddha Yoga, is His full summary of that extraordinary "Consideration". In this book, Avatar Adi Da Samraj Reveals that He has Given the ultimate form of Siddha Yoga--the Way of Adidam, which is also named "Ruchira Shaktipat Yoga", or the Way ("Yoga") Given by the Ruchira Avatar ("Ruchira Avatara"), Who Is the Spiritual Transmitter ("Siddha") of the Heart Itself ("Hridaya").
