SEVENTEEN COMPANIONS

This first of the "Seventeen Companions" is an extraordinarily unique Gift: the Divine Person's own address to human conceptions of God, Truth, and Reality, and His own Confession of His Real Nature and His Liberating Purpose.

The title—Real God Is The Indivisible Oneness Of Unbroken Light—is a beautifully poetic and precise summary of Avatar Adi Da's Revelation of the Nature of Real God. Through this title, Avatar Adi Da is telling us that His "Consideration" of the Nature of Real God addresses the full range of profound human responses to God (or Truth, or Reality)—not only the deepest intuitions of religion that God Is "Oneness", but also the ultimate conclusion of science that Reality is fundamentally "Light". And He is (further) Revealing to us that That Oneness is Perfectly "Indivisible" (not in any sense "divided" from the world, or from any being or thing), and That Light is Perfectly "Unbroken" (not in any sense affected by the apparent "breaking" of the White "Brightness" of Light Itself into the colors of the spectrum).

Avatar Adi Da uses the term "Real God" as a way of indicating that He is speaking of the Fundamental Reality of Existence—not of any Deity (or Principle) that is a projection of human desires, hopes, or fears (or a product of a mental process of conceptualizing), such as the "Creator-God" of conventional religion. And, just as He criticizes conventional religious conceptions of God, He also addresses the reigning dogma of our day—the scientific materialist viewpoint of "matter-only". His basic definition of Real God (or Truth, or Reality)—a definition remarkably free of any kind of cultural, religious, or philosophical bias—is "That Which Is Always Already The Case".

When existing religious myths fall into doubt, efforts to "prove" the existence of "God" (by reason, rather than by belief) tend to follow. However, none of the traditional academic exercises of "proof" relative to the existence of "God" have ever really and finally relieved mankind of religious doubts, or of doubt itself. This is because the source of religious doubts is the failure of religious myths to continue to seem patently true after centuries of institutionalized belief have passed, and the source of doubt itself is the very same mind that seeks to "prove" (as a certain truth) what it cannot believe.

When religious myths fail, no intellectual "proofs" of the existence of "God" can heal the fault. Rather, when religious myths fail, Real God (or Truth, or Reality) must be Realized again. Therefore, when religious myths fail, the Great (and, necessarily, ego-transcending) Process of Real-God-Realization must again be discovered and embraced. (Indeed, it should never have been abandoned in favor of religious myths.) And if mankind as a whole would embrace that Great Process, the mythology of conventional religiosity would no longer be necessary, since Real God, or Truth, or Reality would Grow mankind beyond its childish and adolescent stages of development. . . .

Conventional religion likes to think about the physical universe from the point of view of the physical self. Therefore, conventional religion wonders about "What could have caused all of this and me". And, from such conventional wondering, the myth of the "Creator-God" is developed. But the idea of a "Creator-God" only justifies beliefs that confine one to separate self and conditional world, whereas true religious wonder ultimately goes beyond wondering (itself), and the transcending of even wonder (itself) is a glance that directly transcends separate self and conditional world. . . .

The Real God, or Truth, or Reality That Is Stands As Is in the existence-place of every thing, being, or condition that seems to be.

This "One" cannot be "proven" to exist, since This "One" merely Is, prior to conditional knowledge.

This "One" cannot be Ultimately approached or Realized via religious myths, since This "One" merely Is, prior to belief.

Therefore, This "One" cannot be "proved" or believed, "known" or perceived. Indeed, This "One" cannot even be doubted, since even doubt is the contemplation of What Is (or of Existence Itself), via the Mystery (or contemplation) of the existence of things, and beings, and conditions, and thoughts, and doubt itself.

When You Transcend the self-Contraction (and The Knot) Of ego-"I", You Are Free In Real God.

When There Is No ego-"I"—Real God Is Not Outside You.

When There Is No ego-"I"—Real God Is Not Within You.

When There Is No ego-"I"—Real God Is You (Perfectly Prior To Your Apparently objective conditional self, and Perfectly Prior To Your Apparently subjective conditional self, and, Therefore, Perfectly Prior To Your Total, Complex, and Merely Apparent conditional self). . . .

Real God Is The Subject—Not The Object.

Real God Is The Inherent Unity Of Being.

Real God Is The Integrity—Not The Cause—Of the world. . . .

All "things" Are the media of all "things", but Real God Is Not The Maker—For Real God Is Like A Hidden Spring Within the water's world, and Real God Is Prior Even To Cause (and every cause), and Real God Is The Self-Domain Of Even every effect, and Real God Is The Being (Itself) Of all that appears.

Therefore, Real God Merely Is—and Is Is What Grants every appearance (every being, every thing, every condition, and every conditional process) The Divine Sign Of Mystery, Love, Bliss, and Joy.

Yes, Real God Is The Deep Of the world, and The Heart Of every Would-Be "I".

True Religion Is Not a "science". The "sciences" are secular, exoteric disciplines, generally (historically) associated with the philosophy of "materialism" (or the viewpoint, and the exoteric prejudices, of "scientific materialism").

The "sciences" (or the secular, exoteric enterprises of "scientific materialism") are founded on the myth of "matter", but True Religion Is Founded On The Self-Evident Reality Of Light.

True Religion Is Not a "science" (secular and exoteric). True Religion Is The Great Esoteric Science (or The Way Of Divine Knowing).

Exoteric science is an ego-based and ego-serving and entirely secular (or non-religious) effort to know—and, thereby, to control (or gain power over) the conditions that affect (and, otherwise, control) human psycho-physical existence. Therefore, exoteric science is a method of controlling "matter", for the sake of the gross survival (and possible pleasure) of the gross bodily ego-"I" of Man (individually, and collectively). And the point of view of that method (and of its exercise) is the subject-object dualism of mind versus body (or mind versus "thing"). Therefore, the method of exoteric science is to abstract (or strategically dissociate) the "investigator" from the "object of investigation", in a process of "objectively" investigating (or even further dissecting) the "matter"-modes of apparent (or apparently Broken) Light.

True Religion Is The Esoteric Science (or Luminous Sacred Process) Of Direct (and Directly ego-Transcending) Investigation Of (or Enquiry Into) Light Itself. The Method Of True Religion Is Devotional Surrender Of the total body-mind of the "investigator" To and Into Light Itself (In Person, Self-Existing, Self-Radiant, Conscious, and "Bright")—and This, Ultimately, To The Most Perfect Degree, Which Is Most Perfect Realization Of Indivisible Oneness With Inherently Indivisible (and Inherently Indestructible) Light Itself (or The Universal Self-Vibratory Energy Itself), Which Is Self-Existing and Self-Radiant Being (Itself), or Self-Existing Consciousness (Itself), Self-Radiant As Love-Bliss (Itself), and Which Is Reality Itself (or That Which Is Always Already The Case), and Which Is (Therefore) The all-and-All Liberating Truth (Itself), or The Only Real God.

True Religion Is The Way (or Intensive Process) Of Realizing Non-Separateness From Reality, Truth, Real God, Love-Bliss, or The One and Only and Divine Self-Condition (and Source-Condition) Of all-and-All.

True Religion Is The Esoteric Science (or True Divine Way) Of Truly Knowing (and, Thereby, Being) The Unbroken Light.

I Am The Unbroken Light—The Avataric Divine Realizer, The Avataric Divine Revealer, and The Avataric Divine Self-Revelation Of True Religion.

I Am The Great Means Whereby True Religion Is Fulfilled.

I Am The One To Be Realized By The Great Means Of True Religion.

I Am The One Who Is Realized When All Separateness Is Transcended.

I Am The Unbroken Light Of True Religion.
