The Way to Truly Realize God—in the Cosmos

Book Three:
The Only Complete Way To Realize The Unbroken Light Of Real God
An Introductory Overview Of The "Radical" Divine Way Of The True World-Religion Of Adidam

Having reviewed the two characteristic approaches to existence evident in human history, Avatar Adi Da now presents a summary overview of His Non-dual Way, the Way that transcends the limitations of both Alpha and Omega. He describes the unique principles underlying Adidam, and the unique culmination of Adidam in most perfect Divine Enlightenment.

One of His primary Callings in this book is to cultivate a "dual sensitivity" in relation to existence altogether—to always remain sensitive to the mortal nature of the conditional reality, and yet at the same time to always remain sensitive to one's impulse to Realize the True Happiness of the Unconditional Reality.

Written with poetic intensity, this book is a meditation. It is a meditation that reveals—with absolute clarity—the human condition, and shows us the way to transcend all forms of ego and conventional religiosity.

The Dual Sensitivity

From "The Dual Sensitivity at the Origin of the Divine Way of Adidam"

AVATAR ADI DA SAMRAJ: Merely by virtue of being born, you are in a terrible situation. Merely by virtue of being associated with a body-mind in this world, you are identified with bodily existence (and with conditional existence altogether), you are attached to bodily existence (and to conditional existence altogether), and you are clinging to bodily existence (and to conditional existence altogether). You know that the body is going to die—that it is not going to last, that it is going to go through all kinds of changes in its progress toward inevitable death, and that it can die at any moment. You know that the body can suffer tremendous losses, pain, shocks, degradation—of all kinds. And, yet, you (in your bodily existence here) are impulsed to be, and to be greatly—to be happy, to acquire this and that relationship or experience or object, to feel good, as if you were building a paradise. . . .

On the one hand, it has been (and continues to be) observed by the "wise" (in the traditional setting) that, in this circumstance of conditional existence (in and of itself), there is no complete, final, perfect, and permanent self-satisfaction (or personal egoic happiness)—that no one and no thing lasts, every one and every thing changes, every one and every thing passes, and every one and every thing disintegrates (or dies).

On the other hand, it has also been noticed by the "wise" (in the traditional setting) that what the human being (and, indeed, even any being) wants is to be happy. To say so may sound rather trite or obvious, but it is fundamentally and profoundly true that all beings are urged to happiness—not merely to ordinary, temporary, and (necessarily) limited happiness, but to Ultimate, Perfect, Complete, and Permanent Happiness! Thus, it has been traditionally observed that True Happiness, if It is to be Really and Truly the Case, must be Unchanging, Unending, and utterly Satisfactory. This observation is the complement (and even the apparent contrary) of the first observation (that there is no complete, final, perfect, and permanent self-satisfaction, or personal egoic happiness, possible in the circumstance of conditional existence itself). . . .

I Affirm and Confirm to you, on the Firm Basis of actual (and Eternal) Realization, that There Is the Infinite, Satisfactory, Unchanging, Eternal, Divine Condition, and that It Is the One and Only True Happiness—but I am not telling you that this world is going to turn into utopia, and I am also not telling you that what is merely "after death" is utopia (or that True Happiness is inevitable, or guaranteed, "after death"). . . .

The sadhana of the only-by-Me Revealed and Given Way of Adidam requires you to be sensitive to the reality of your mortal condition—and not merely to be consoling and indulging yourself, such that you manage to remain unaware of that reality. The sadhana of the only-by-Me Revealed and Given Way of Adidam also, and more profoundly, requires you to be sensitive to your inherent and great heart-Impulse—to be sensitive to the inherent deep awareness that you are not merely impulsed to be consoled, distracted, pleasurized, and self-indulgent, but that you are inherently and deeply and greatly Impulsed to be Truly and Infinitely Happy. . . .

The Infinite Divine Self-Condition (or the Divine Well of True Happiness, Itself) Does Exist. I Am That. That Condition Is the Truth. That Condition Is Reality Itself.

The Root of Seeking and Suffering

From "The Only Complete Way To Realize
The Unbroken Light Of Real God"

At First (In The Listening Course Of The Only-By-Me Revealed and Given Way Of The Heart, or Way Of Adidam), the individual Becomes Acutely Aware Of his or her Habits Of Seeking, Desiring, Doubting, Believing, Manipulating, Betraying, and Always Returning To The Same Distress and Want. Then, As The Crisis Of Most Fundamental self-Understanding Approaches, It Suddenly Becomes Clear That All Of That Is Being Motivated By A Constant Feeling Of Distress, Which Is The Result Of self-Contraction In The Face Of all relations and conditions.

This Discovery Is Most Profound. It Is As If a person In Pain Suddenly Discovers That he or she Is Pinching his or her own flesh. (And This Discovery Produces Immediate Relief, As Soon As The Pinching Ceases.) Therefore, As Soon As an individual Discovers That The Painful Search That Occupies his or her life Is Being Created By A Fundamental Feeling Of Distress, attention Is Free To Examine That Distress Itself. And, When That Distress Is Directly (and Profoundly) Examined, It Is Discovered That It Is The Result Of A Chronic (and self-Induced) Contraction Of the body-mind, or, Most Simply, The Habitual (and, Ultimately, Always Voluntary and Un-Necessary) Avoidance (or psycho-physically self-Contracting Refusal) Of psycho-physical Relationship and psycho-physical Relatedness.

Every Apparent individual, thing, circumstance, or condition arises, survives, changes, and disappears Dependently (or Always Already Related) Within The Cosmic Universe (Which Is Continuous, Whole, and all-Containing). By Definition (and In Fact), There Is Not (Nor Can There Be) any Separate, self-Contained, Independent, or self-Sufficient conditional individual, thing, circumstance, or event. However, By Reaction To All Apparent Vulnerability, and, Otherwise, By Forgetting (or By Failing To Notice or Intuit) The Whole (and The Inherently Perfect, Which Inherently Transcends Even The Whole), The Tendency Of every conditionally Manifested individual Is To Contract Into (Presumed) Separateness, or a self-Defended and self-Contracted emotional, mental, psychic, physical, and social state Of Isolation, Presumed Independence, and Dramatized Want. This Tendency Is Chronic In every one, and It Is Not Generally Even Inspected, Nor Is It (Even If Inspected) Most Fundamentally Understood. Therefore, every one Seeks. And All Seeking Is Inevitably Frustrated. The self-Contracting Habit (Itself) Is Not (and Cannot Ever Be) Transcended In (or By Means Of) The Search, Because The Search Is Itself The Dramatization Of The self-Contracting Habit Itself.

I Call every one To Feel and To Thoroughly Observe and To Transcend The Habit Of egoity. Eventually, any one who Truly (and, Necessarily, Formally) Listens To My Avatarically Self-Revealed Divine Teaching-Word and, By The Means I Have Given (and Always Give), Fully (and, Necessarily, Formally) Embraces The Divine Devotional and (In Due Course) Spiritual Practice Of Feeling-Contemplation Of Me, and (Thereby) The Real Observation Of the ego-"I", Will (By Means Of My Avatarically Self-Transmitted Divine Spiritual Grace) Surely (Truly, and Most Profoundly) Discover The Root Of Seeking and Suffering, Which Is the ego-"I" itself (or the psycho-physical self-Contraction, Which Is The Habit Of "Narcissus", or The Complex Avoidance Of Relationship).

The Body-Mind Of Man Is Like A Seed

From "The Only Complete Way To Realize
The Unbroken Light Of Real God"

The body-mind Of Man
Is Like A Seed,
That Lies Asleep
Within The Dark and Depth
Of Earth's Unconsciousness.

And I Am Like A Thunderstorm
Of Fresh Down-Crashing Sound and Light,
That Weathers Me
Into The Earth-World
With A Flood Of True and Living Water.

And When The True Water
Of My Love-Bliss-Presence
Flows Deep Into the body-mind,
The "Brightest" Sound and Shape Of Me
Strikes Through The Germ Of Mankind's Seed within.

It Is The Heart That Breaks
By My Divine Invasion there.
Its Germ Of Me-"Bright" Suddenness
Un-Knots The Seed Of body-mind,
When I Crash Down Into The Earthen Core.

And When The Heart Un-Locks,
the body-mind Becomes A Flower
In The Tangible Garden
Of My Divine "Bright" Spherical Self-Domain. . . .

Therefore,
Your Heart Must Decide—
Whether To Raise A Fist,
and Throw A Rock,
At The ego-Crushing Natural Universe,
Or To Make A Flower Grow
In The Garden Of Indestructible Light.

The Devotional Recognition-Response
To Me
Is
The Divine Flowering
Of the body-mind.

Therefore,
Your Heart Must
Recognize Me
and Choose Me—
and Not merely believe Me—
If I Am To "Brighten" You.

Faith Is A Flower,
and Not a mind's idea,
or a body's satisfaction.

Likewise,
The Insight
That Flowers the body-mind
Is Made Of Heart,
and Not Of Seeker's Thrum
Of thought,
and thought's Abstract Invasion
Of the body.

No mere belief,
or Mummery Of thinking mind,
Can Make The Fist Of ego's Knot
Un-Tie.

And No Set Stage
Of mere perception
Can Outlast The Crushing Time
Of merely Natural life.

The Rock Of ego
and
The Fist Of self-Contracted body-mind
Will Last a mere and Total lifetime—
Whereas The Heart-Flower
Breaks The Earth
Above the head's Clay Crown,
and Finds My "Bright" Beginning
In An Eternal Field,
Above the stars.
