Avatar ADi Da SamrajAs devotees of Avatar Adi Da, we recognize that He was born Conscious as perfect love, bliss and happiness. We know Him to be the Incarnation of the only Real God there is—Which Is Conscious Light Itself, Reality Itself. By this, we mean that He is not the conventionally sought "Creator God", but the Incarnation of the Source and "Substance" of all, the Divine Reality in which everything inheres.

For this reason, His Bodily Presence is a paradox--the Divine in human form, but not limited by that form. We feel incredibly blessed to be alive in this time and have found Adi Da during His physical Incarnation. But we understand that He has always been and will always be Present for all time. Adi Da is That Which is Eternal, unbounded, prior to and beyond the body-mind and the world, and not limited by birth and change and death.

The Divine Intervention in Human Time

In the religious and Spiritual traditions of human history, a common theme of prophecy appears: When the world is in its darkest hour, when self-interest has become the governing principle of human life, when the connection to the Living Divine has disappeared from human society, when the world itself is threatened by the always imminent possibility of catastrophic nuclear global conflict and widespread natural disaster, there is to come a final and all-completing Revelation of the Divine in human form.

The religious and Spiritual traditions speak, each in their own language, of a Promised God–Man. These prophecies come out of the deep intuition, in every human heart, that there is something more than the temporary pleasures and inevitable sufferings of ordinary life. They come out of the longing for Divine Help, and the heart–certainty that such Divine Help will not be denied. It is in Love–response to this universal heart–longing and intuition that the Divine Reality has Appeared in human form.

Avatar Adi Da's birth in Jamaica, New York, 1939, was the full and literal "Emergence" of the Divine Reality in human time. For the first two years of life, association with a human body was no obstruction to His awareness of His Divine Condition. He has described in His Spiritual Autobiography, Tbe Knee Of Listening, how, in His infancy, He existed in a Radiant State of Being full of profound Love–Bliss. As He first acquired language, Avatar Adi Da described this Reality as the "Bright".

By the word "Bright" (and its variations, such as "Brightness"), Avatar Adi Da refers to the eternally, infinitely, and inherently Self-Radiant Divine, Indivisible and Indestructible Light Itself. As Adi Da Writes in His Spiritual Autobiography, The Knee Of Listening:

". . . from my earliest experience of life I have Enjoyed a Condition that, as a child, I called the "Bright".

I have always known desire, not merely for extreme pleasures of the senses and the mind, but for the highest Enjoyment of Spiritual Power and Mobility. But I have not been seated in desire, and desire has only been a play that I have grown to understand and enjoy without conflict. I have always been Seated in the "Bright". Even as a baby I remember only crawling around inquisitively with a boundless Feeling of Joy, Light, and Freedom in the middle of my head that was bathed in Energy moving unobstructed in a Circle, down from above, all the way down, then up, all the way up, and around again, and always Shining from my heart. It was an Expanding Sphere of Joy from the heart. And I was a Radiant Form, the Source of Energy, Love-Bliss, and Light in the midst of a world that is entirely Energy, Love-Bliss, and Light. I was the Power of Reality, a direct Enjoyment and Communication of the One Reality. I was the Heart Itself, Who Lightens the mind and all things. I was the same as every one and every thing, except it became clear that others were apparently unaware of the "Thing" Itself.

Even as a little child I recognized It and Knew It, and my life was not a matter of anything else. That Awareness, that Conscious Enjoyment, that Self-Existing and Self-Radiant Space of Infinitely and inherently Free Being, that Shine of inherent Joy Standing in the heart and Expanding from the heart, is the "Bright". And It is the entire Source of True Humor. It is Reality. It is not separate from anything."

Through the human Birth of Avatar Adi Da, the "Bright" Divine Reality and Condition has been tangibly drawn down into this humble realm, for the Spiritual Blessing and Divine Awakening of human beings. This is the nature of the "Avatar"-the Divine One Who has "crossed down" from the Unmanifest into the manifest condition for the sake of liberating beings. The Appearance of Avatar Adi Da Samraj in this world is the fulfillment of the universal prophecy of the Promised God Man. He has come to found a new tradition, which He Offers to all-a religion based on the direct and present relationship to the Divine Incarnate—the true world-religion of Adidam.
