True art should permit and invite self–transcendence. True art is not merely the product of a hero or heroine who is able to transcend himself or herself and create something which is then to be passively admired by others. Participation in an art form should be a great exercise that enables you to transcend yourself. True art has a purpose for others, not merely a purpose for the artist.

— Avatar Adi Da Samraj

Art

My Art is the Art of Heart–Participation, Heart–Activity. It is Art made of feeling, rather than of a perception or a conception merely. The total field of feeling—perceptually located, ecstatically Realized—is the content of My Artwork.

—Avatar Adi Da Samraj

From His earliest years, Avatar Adi Da Samraj was moved to communicate Truth via artistic means. As a child, He began to develop the arts of drawing and painting. Later, in His college years, He also began to develop the art of writing.

His first fully developed artistic work was His literary masterpiece, The Mummery Book—a boldly innovative novel, unique in its extremely non–linear (yet deeply meaningful) form, its intensely beautiful and original use of language, and its profound Spiritual Message. The Mummery Book was originally written in 1969, and then greatly expanded and elaborated in 1996–1998,

At the time of His final work on The Mummery Book, Avatar Adi Da also began to intensively develop a unique approach to the creation of visual art—a new form of “light–imagery”, technically based in photography, and realized as many different modes of “monumental fabrication”.
