Forerunners

Starting in the 1970s, Avatar Adi Da would occasionally speak to His devotees about the pre-history of His present birth—of the unique conjunction of events it had required.

To take human form, the Divine Person had to conjoin with the ordinary processes of the cosmos, including the mechanism of reincarnation.

Every human personality, Avatar Adi Da has explained, is composed of a gross (or physical) vehicle—the body, derived from one’s parents—and a subtle vehicle—the “reincarnate”, the deeper mechanism of the ego that moves from life to life.

In order to be born, Adi Da Samraj required a subtle vehicle attuned to the task of bringing true Spirituality to the modern West.

Swami Vivekananda was the most cherished disciple of the great Indian Adept Ramakrishna. In 1893, he travelled to America for the Parliament of World’s Religions, with the impulse to bring the ancient wisdom of India to the West. After the accolade he received at the Parliament, Swami Vivekananda spent years in constant travel, lecturing all over America and in England. When he died, at the age of 39, he was utterly convinced of the need to bring true Wisdom to the West, even indicating he might be reborn to do so.

On March 20, 1993, Avatar Adi Da confirmed conclusively to His devotees: Swami Vivekananda’s compassionate urge to be reborn in order to serve the West had created a unique conjunction with Avatar Adi Da’s Divine Impulse to Manifest in the human realm, and it was this conjunction that provided the vehicle for Avatar Adi Da’s Incarnation as Franklin Jones.

AVATAR ADI DA SAMRAJ: It should be understood about this intentional Birth of Mine that no “decision” was made from an absolute point of view, out of the blue. The Deeper Personality Vehicle of Swami Vivekananda was provided conditionally, as I have indicated. I, My Self, was brought into conjunction with the conditional reality by those means. In that conjunction, I “Consented” to the Ordeal of human Manifestation.

The Deeper Personality Vehicle of Swami Vivekananda arose in the conditional domain and provided the conjunction with Me (As I Am). That Vehicle was conjoined with My Very Being. Swami Vivekananda was given up completely, and the Vehicle became transparent to Me.
